Jump Man

This is the first in a series I'm doing for my brother Tommy. He's really into video games, and I thought it'd be cool to paint each Mario, all the same size. I found a really great reference here: [link]

This one is actually from Donkey Kong. He wasn't technicaly "Mario" then, a prototype I guess. But I really liked doing the background. I didn't add Donkey Kong, I might do that for him later. This is all about Mario now.

The painting (8x10) didn't take long at all, but the gridding . . . oh man, I haven't had to grid anything since my junior year, and I just couldn't get it right. XD I finally did with a secret weapon my mom let me use (see-through acrylic ruler thingy), and now that I know how to do it, it'll go a lot faster for the next ones.

I did the pixels pretty big on this one, and I'll do them smaller on some. Just to show more progression. For the last three or so there won't be a grid at all.

So yeah. This is the original Mario. Mario before he was Mario. Prehistory. Caveman. King of the seas!

Sorry I'm hyper, please forgive me, I have six days of freedom ahead of me (hell yes Thanksgiving! Best holiday ever! Yeah that's right I said it was beter than Christmas!)

That being said, I really don't mind doing Christmas pictures. I just like the simplicity of Thanksgiving. Or something. Less . . . commercial? Yeah.
