Ode to Pokemon

Description

DA app isn't working on my phone, so I might not be able to post work as frequently. I will eventually post everything I intend to post, though. Also, apologies for this image not being as high quality...this really is the best I can do for now. I really should invest in a decent camera (I can't scan this one; it's too large).

This is a SUPER long explanation.

It's basically a dedication to a series I've been following over half my life...Pokémon! I drew my favorites from each type; some of my favorites (like Houndoom) aren't on here, because I like a lot of Pokémon of the
Dark and Fire types. And there are multiple representations of types (like the 4 dragons), but I chose their dual type as my fave.

Since several of my faves are part dark or ghost, I made part of the drawing fade into nighttime (Porygon-Z kind of gets its own space). Some of the drawing is at an odd curve, done in order to fit more in and give the night part kind of a distorted look. I found the nighttime part easier and more fun to draw, but I might have overdid it with the lightning AND aurora. I also did it on watercolor paper...which was a challenge with blending, but made drawing night sky super easy (definitely thinking of doing a night sky drawing on this paper). Hydreigon kind of blends into the background, but I hope he's still distinguishable. I kind of like it that way.

I decided on kind of a medieval theme, due to the many dragons and Aegislash. I chose the Cochem castle in Germany as a reference (the details aren't exact. The coloring is about the same though). I tend to like Germanic castles. www.google.com/search?q=cochem…...

I'm rambling...this is going to be long. Here is a short explanation for each one.

*Fairy: Sylveon- It looks harmless but is badass! My go-to Fairy type. I actually strongly disliked its design when it was first released, then I got used to it and learned it is a great fighter.
*Grass: Chikorita- Love it; it has such a spunky personality. I actually like most of the Grass starters; this one was hard.
*Water: Gyarados- I always go back to Gyarados. This one was an easier choice than I thought. When Waterfall became physical, Gyarados finally had viable STAB. And that was legit.
*Ice: Lapras- One of my old-school favorites. It has solid stats and can learn Thunderbolt and Ice Beam, a classic combination.
*Bug: Butterfree- So much nostalgia with this one. It may or may not be connected to "Bye Bye Butterfree" from the anime. So sad. And all my Nuzlockes that had a Butterfree had a tragic death for them. Idk why, but this Pokémon tends to bring feels. I like its design as well, very simple.
*Poison: Scolipede- Scary as hell but so cool. And with Poison becoming more useful due to Fairies, I like having one around. Just wouldn't want one irl. Bug was hard to choose from.
*Fire: Growlithe- Obviously y'all can tell I love this thing from my icon. It's one of my long-time favorites, likely my favorite of all time (constantly fighting with Umbreon). I've always been a dog person, and Growlithe is just so adorable. And I have many memories using it as part of my team in GSC. They also keep making its moveset better and better. Close Combat and Outrage? Yes.
*Electric: Jolteon- I know I have three Eeveelutions on here, but I can't help it. Jolteon is one of the most reliable electric types. Seriously, give it Thunderbolt and it's a killer. I like fast Pokémon, too. It's a very good representation of electric Pokémon, if not with a shallow movepool.
*Rock: Tyrunt- I'm not that big on Rock types, but then I saw X and Y pre-releases, I thought it was the cutest thing! I was a huge dinosaur fan growing up and loved The Land Before Time, and Chomper was my favorite. For that reason, I will forever name it Chomper. Definitely my favorite fossil Pokémon. I never use it long-term, but I use it more than the other fossils (except maybe Aerodactyl).
*Ground: Flygon- It's is so cool. I feel like it's a cheat to have so many dragons on here, but...meh. Flygon represents Ground well, even though I think it looks more like it's part Bug. Ground works too. Flygon has a cool design and it's not OP like some other dragons.
*Fighting: Gallade- I'm not a big fan of fighting or psychic types, but Gallade is tight and manages to balance out both types well. Its design is really cool and sleek, and it kicks butt. Love this thing, and I always call it Soul Slicer. It fits.
*Flying: Salamence- One of my favorites. I would've had it as my favorite dragon, but it's so hard to choose! I was going to go with Staraptor, and I do love Staraptor, but Salamence wins. I like its design and I've always liked European dragons (hence the European castle). It's very versatile and can learn Hydro Pump. That's tight.
*Steel: Aegislash- This thing is so tight. I love it. Ghost/ Steel is a really cool combination and I think it fits the medieval themes in Kalos very well. Plus, a possessed sword? So cool.
*Dragon: Hydreigon- I love dark types. I love dragon types. 'Nuff said. Its design is really cool and I like that its stats are more geared towards Special attacking, making it stand out a bit. It's honestly not the best dragon, but it's one of the coolest and most unique imo. Plus, they really needed to do a multi-headed dragon. Not to mention eins zwei drei.
*Ghost: Gengar- Gengar, to me, is the best representation of ghosts. Being part poison actually works well with it, giving it many resistances. I really like sweepers and annoyers, and Gengar does both well.
*Dark: Umbreon- Constantly fighting with Growlithe for my ultimate favorite. It's a little different from my usual style of battling (sweeping), but it's a nice change. Sadly its usefulness has decreased since gen 5 for me, but it'll always be one of my favorites. It's adorable and badass. It sweats poison for crying out loud, that's metal as fuck. And if I had to have a Pokémon as a pet, Umbreon would be it.
*Psychic: Mew- Mew is classic. It's hard to find, but if you can find it, it can do anything you want it to. It's another one of those cute ones that can kill mercilessly. It's also hilarious to go back to gen 1, do the Mew glitch, and teach it a bunch of moves that make no sense like Horn Drill.
*Normal: Porygon-Z- Porygon-Z stands out to me. It's like no other Pokémon. Its design is unique and it's one of the only Pokémon that can use Hyper Beam effectively. Tri Attack is also one of my favorite Normal type moves, and I don't get to use it much. It's perfect for this guy.

Because I have no life, I tallied up the total favorites from each gen.

RBY: 7
GSC: 2
RSE: 2
DPP: 2
BW: 2
XY: 3

I think XY had a really good, strong group of new ones.

So...that's it. Whew. Worked on this pretty two weeks, probably took about fifteen hours. Worth it though. Enjoy!
